<kenan.al-shamie> hey there! relatively new ceph developer sepia member here; when I got access to [teuthology.front.ceph.com](http://teuthology.front.ceph.com), I wasn’t able to go to any other stands from there,

so I just cloned the ceph repo to my home directory in teuthology then tried to run do_cmake for crimson, but it failed due to no ninja… when I run install deps, it asks for a sudo permission password I don’t have…

so I guess my question is, have I done this right, or should I be trying to do this in a podman container?

<kenan.al-shamie> and how I am trying to log on:

```kenepia@teuthology:~/.ssh$ ssh senta01
^[[3~ssh: connect to host [senta01.front.sepia.ceph.com](http://senta01.front.sepia.ceph.com) port 22: No route to host```
<Dan Mick> Dear God, no, don't build ceph on teuthology
2024-07-26T22:01:23.389Z
<kenan.al-shamie> my bad, deleted the repo…
I’ve worked out the right way to access the dev stands now but the issue still remains that it’s promting a password, and I don’t remember ever setting up a password during the vpn setup process during which I came up with this username
<kenan.al-shamie> hey there! relatively new ceph developer sepia member here; when I got access to [teuthology.front.ceph.com](http://teuthology.front.ceph.com), I tried to access other stands and it asks for my password, but I don’t recall making a password when I chose this username for the vpn setup, is there an obvious answer to this or is there a step when I made my password and I just forgot?
<Dan Mick> by "stands" do you mean "machines"?
2024-07-26T22:39:43.861Z
<Dan Mick> and if so, which machines are you trying to access?
2024-07-26T22:40:43.108Z
<Dan Mick> if you haven't yet built ceph, you need to make arrangements for a build host; we don't typically provide those for everyone.  The build services we provide are for change requests that have been built and tested locally, so it's known they build and at least basically work
2024-07-26T22:41:32.067Z
<Dan Mick> Sorry, I don't know what you're showing me
2024-07-26T22:45:00.739Z
<kenan.al-shamie> my bad, yes machines, any of the ones mentioned in the developer playground list, I’ve tried senta01 and folio13 for example
<kenan.al-shamie> right, makes sense… I was pointed here with the impression that I can use this lab for running, building and testing my own repo so my apologies for the confusion
<Dan Mick> Developer playground hosts are a bit informal.  I don't know what's expected of people to be able to use them, but they're not just open to all with no prior arrangement.  Have you been interacting with anyone to help mentor you into a development role?
2024-07-26T23:27:57.654Z
<kenan.al-shamie> Yes, I have some mentors at IBM. I want to use these for extra work outside of my main ceph role, in particular on Crimson. ceph takes like a day or more to compile a change on my personal laptop so I was directed here.
<Dan Mick> OK.  I think what fits best is an account on one of the playground machines, then.  I don't know just how we're arbitrating who gets what space there, so let me ask around and figure some things out.  Remind me next week.
